ARIES - the Ram

Basic Traits:

Aries people are creative, adaptive, and insightful. They can also be strong-willed and spontaneous (sometimes to a fault). Aries people can be driven and are very ambitious often making them over-achievers in anything they set their mind to tackle. Aries are fire signs, and so too is their personality. They may be quick to anger, but don't take it personally, it's just their fiery, passionate personalities showing through. Aries signs have excellent sense of humor, and they get along with almost everyone at the party (and they DO know how to party). Aries can be impatient, but we love them anyway because they are devoted friends, lovers and family members - they are loyal to then end and will fight for their causes (usually supporting the underdog).

The Deeper Meaning:

Fundamentally, Aries' function is to be the initiator, the one who gets things started. In the northern hemisphere (where the myths surrounding astrology arose), the Sun enters Aries at the Spring equinox. Nature is coming to life after its winter slumbers, and manifests great energy as new growth pushes up out of the earth.

So Aries' function in life is to get things moving. The contributions all the other signs have to offer depend on someone providing the initial impulse. Aries is a fire sign, and fire has to do with inspiration and imagination. Your aim is to bring these qualities into life and act on them.

Now this may raise issues of compatibility with people whose horoscopes have different emphases. You may meet opposition from people (maybe with an earth sign like Taurus or Virgo emphasized in their birth charts) who are frustrated, telling you that it is all very well to be fired with imagination and act on new ideas, but what counts is whether anything lasting results. Well, yes, they may have a point. Perhaps you get some project off the ground, lots of people become dependent on the continuation of that project, but then it collapses as it is not being sustained. Here is a challenge to you to be true to yourself. If you get bored easily with a project once it has been started, maybe you need to make sure there are others around who are good at sustaining and managing the practical necessities of your idea. Then anyone dependent on it will not be let down. If you have no inclination to work with practical details, then maybe you could accept that as a personal quality you don't have and leave it to others, while you act on your next inspired idea! However, although you have an Aries emphasis, there may have been a lot of planets in earth signs (maybe Mercury in Taurus for instance) when you were born, and this would indicate some more practical inclinations you may want to pursue.

Consider the sign immediately opposite, Libra. Represented by a pair of scales, Libra is concerned with balance, harmony, co-operation. These are qualities you may need to learn in order to be effective, but not at the expense of your overall aims in life. You have, underlying everything, a strong personal will to move in life and fulfill your aims. Co-operation may be needed, but never allow others to sit on you or hold you down, otherwise you will be frustrated and unable to make the contribution to life you were born to make. This could be difficult if the Moon was in Libra when you were born, because this would indicate that your instinctive desire is to live in perfect peace and harmony with others - if you are at loggerheads with someone, then you feel insecure. This is a side of your nature which needs to be honored, and it may take a lot of negotiation, especially with one you love with whom compatibility is so strongly desired, to have the peaceful co-existence you need at the same time as pursuing your own interests.
