Charitable Monthly Spotlight - Wounded Warriors Project

The mission of the WWP is to honor and empower Wounded Warriors by raising the awareness of the public and helping injured service members through a variety of programs and services. All of this is in the hopes of fostering the most successful, well-adjusted generation of wounded service members in our nation's history.

 Programs Offered

The WWP aims to help our injured veterans through 4 key facets of healing; Mind. Body. Economics. and Engagement. Here how...

MIND - "We envision a generation of Wounded Warriors well-adjusted in mind, receiving support to overcome the challenges of readjustment. Through interactive programs, outdoor rehabilitative retreats, peer support, and professional services, warriors are given the tools to maintain healthy, meaningful relationships with family and friends, and pursue life goals without the barriers or stigmas associated with mental health issues."

BODY - "We envision a generation of Wounded Warriors well-adjusted in body, receiving the care they need to maximize rehabilitation and live active and healthy lives. Through adaptive sports, health, nutrition, and recreational activities, WWP helps warriors achieve independence and pursue an excellent quality of life."

ECONOMIC EMPOWERMENT - "We envision a generation of Wounded Warriors who are economically empowered. They are not unemployed or underemployed, and have opportunities to pursue a meaningful career or own their own business. WWP offers higher education programs, information technology training, and employment assistance services to encourage economic empowerment for warriors to provide long-term financial stability for themselves and their families."

ENGAGEMENT - "To ensure injured service members stay connected with one another, WWP has both a peer mentoring and robust Alumni program. Additionally, the Policy & Government affairs program ensures injured warriors and their families have a voice in local and national advocacy and legislative issues. WWP also offers a Benefits Service program that provides you with access to government benefits and details on all of our programs and community resources."

How can you help?

There are a number of ways that you too can help empower our valiant veterans who have returned home with injuries, both the visible and hidden scars of war.

You can volunteer your time, your money, or even just your presence through word of mouth. For myself, I've decided to donate 10% of the total March sales from my website, BlueCopperJewelry.com, to the Wounded Warriors Project!! With each purchase you make from Blue Copper Jewelry you'll be getting beautiful jewelry and helping a great cause, all at the same time! It doesn't get much easier than that does it?!

If you'd like to donate directly to the cause, or to learn more about how you can help, follow this link.

Charitable Monthly Spotlight - 30 Hour Famine

This month I'm showing my support for 30 hour famine, an organization that works with hundreds of thousands of students in the U.S. — and thousands more around the world — to unite through World Vision’s 30 Hour Famine to feed hungry children and families. To learn more about this awesome organization, click here.

Why did I choose to support 30 Hour Famine?!

My daughter has such a huge heart. As part of a Senior project, she decided to do a fundraiser for this awesome charity throughout the month of February. Here are her words...

I'm going without food for 30 hours to raise money so others can eat — because it's not right that nearly 19,000 children under 5 are dying every day. The good news? You can help.  Just $35 will help feed and care for a child for a month! All you have to do is click one of the orange buttons below to give your gift! (Which is tax-deductible.)

Other ways you can help:
If you aren't able to help monetarily, please help by sharing this page on your Facebook, Twitter, Tumblr, Pintrest, Google+, Snapchat, anywhere. Get the word out and help children in need!

How your donations help stop hunger:
World Vision fights hunger by: -Teaching parents improved farming techniques. -Equipping families to grow crops and raise healthier livestock. -Improving access to clean water for nutritious harvests. -Helping children get basic medical care (because hunger is linked to nearly half of all preventable child deaths). -Supporting malnutrition centers when there's a food crisis. -Providing emergency food supplies when there's a disaster.

Who you're giving your money to:
World Vision is a Christian humanitarian organization with more than 60 years of experience, although I am not necessarily religious, World Vision is trusted by more than a million donors in the U.S. They are honest, effective, and stretch donations by combining them with grants and product donations to make a huge impact for children and families in need in nearly 100 countries!

Charitable Monthly Spotlight - HAG

This month I'm showing my support for HAG, an organization that helps people with Sugar Gliders who are having a tough time caring for them. It's not a hand-out but a hand-up.... more like Goodwill for Gliders than anything else. To learn more about this awesome organization, click here.

What is a sugar-glider?

“Sugar Gliders” are small marsupials in the same general family as a Kangaroo or Koala Bear. They are originally from the rainforests of Australia and Indonesia , and have been domestically bred as household pets in the United States for the last 12-15 years.

Often called 'pocket-pets', they are super soft and adorable. However, they also need a ton of care and upkeep. Since they're so dang adorable, many people will get one as a 'cool' pet not knowing exactly what it takes to raise them.

I've learned a ton about these cute critters as I've been a proud Sugar Glider Mama for the past 4 years. We're huge animal lovers in my house... along with our glider we also have a dog, a cat, and a bird. Just a bit of a zoo going on over here!

I discovered HAG last year while researching on my glider - I like to keep up-to-date on the latest news and techniques in raising these exotic animals. I was so impressed with both the mission of HAG as well as the knowledge and passion shown by founder Amanda Nojoe, that I knew I wanted to show my support. Which brought me to the question...
